The Weekend Report - Historic finds abound! 🏛️ August 1-2 Edition

This week we have one of the most historically significant estate sales we've ever featured, a beautifully curated fine art home in Austin, a stained glass and MCM loaded sale in Illinois, one of the largest single sales we've seen all year in Michigan, and a mysteriously titled storied collection in New Jersey.


Here's what we'd travel for this weekend.


1. Downsizing Sale on Edisto Island Packed With Island History — Edisto Island, South Carolina

This is the sale of the weekend — and one of the most historically significant estate sales we have ever featured.


The Ellie's Attic is presenting a two-day event on Edisto Island featuring items tied directly to the Pope, Seabrook, and LaRoche families — among the oldest and most storied families on Edisto Island, South Carolina — along with pieces from Cassina Point and Gun Bluff Plantations. The provenance of the key items is documented and provided by a family descendant.


The catalog is extraordinary. A 19th century Mosler Bahmann & Co. floor safe from Gun Bluff Plantation. An antique marble mortar from Cassina Point Plantation. A large selection of antique books, including first editions, moved from Cassina Point when the plantation sold in the 1980s. 19th century furniture with several pieces from Cassina Point. 19th century American stoneware — a four-gallon churn with cobalt floral decoration and decorated milk bowls with cobalt blue spouts. A mid-1800s blown glass hurricane lamp shade that belonged to Carolina Lafayette and James Hopkinson. Sterling silver throughout — candlesticks, baby cups, a Wallace sterling bowl, sterling cream and sugar set. A WWII German steel helmet and rifle bayonet. A Villeroy & Boch Dresden Saxony mixing bowl in rare coral color from the early 1900s. Pyrex Amish Butterprint Cinderella mixing bowls. An antique Keuffel & Esser surveyor's transit. A Lionel train set. Vintage fishing lures. A rare Ariocarpus cactus. Art, china, military items, tools, vintage bicycle, and primitive items throughout.

2. Blue Moon Estate Sale in Westlake — Austin, Texas

Blue Moon Estate Sales is running a two-day sale in Westlake — one of the wealthiest and most desirable neighborhoods in Austin — and the art collection alone makes this worth the trip.


Multiple original works by named artists: a Jacqueline Rochester original serigraph, a Doug Oliver original painting, a Gene Thornton figure study painting, an MCM brutalist impasto painting, a Joan McConnell mixed media collage, and a Pamela Mason oil painting of Canyon de Chelly. Also on the floor: a Marie Peshlakai Navajo rug, an MCM Attila Tivadar Bayshore art bust, Dillingham MCM side tables, a Milus watch, a WWII era knife, a turntable with records, a Native American log wood drum, outdoor stained glass, Coach and Dooney & Bourke handbags, vintage books, folk art, and a full patio setup.

3. Gunning and Company Estate Sales in Chestnut Hill — Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Gunning and Company Estate Sales is running a two-day sale at 732 St Andrews Road in Chestnut Hill — one of Philadelphia's most architecturally distinguished neighborhoods — and the item list goes absolutely everywhere.

Baker furniture. LaBarge glass and brass coffee table. Kindel console table and stools. Thomasville bedroom sets. MacKenzie-Childs rugs, lamps, and accessories throughout. A massive Waterford collection — stemware, vases, pitchers, chandeliers, and candy dishes. Baccarat, Lalique, Simon Pearce, Tiffany, Murano art glass. Christopher Marley bug art. 4. Take a Slow Ride Into Standish — Standish, Michigan

Mid-Michigan Estates is calling this their biggest sale of the year — and the vehicle lineup alone justifies that claim.


A 2016 Shelby GT350 with twelve original miles, the original Monroney window sticker still attached. A 1988 Aqua Blue Corvette with 71,238 original miles, clean title, freshly serviced at a Chevy dealership. A 2014 Mustang GT with under 20,000 miles selling live through Bring a Trailer — the listing goes live during the estate sale itself. A 2017 Ford F150 extended cab. A 2023 Honda Trail 125 CT125 Adventure Mini Motorcycle with two original miles, fuel-injected, street legal, clean title. Two additional 2023 Hondas. And a 1998 Proline 2610 Walkaround 30th Anniversary Edition boat — 27.5 feet long, 454HP 7.4 MPI with a Yamaha 25 kicker 2-stroke.

Countryside Estate Sales is presenting One Man's Folly — A Storied Collection of Treasures at 422 West Mill Road in Long Valley, and the photos tell the whole story. This is a carefully curated lifetime collection of European garden and decorative arts, Americana, folk art, and architectural salvage — the kind of collection that takes decades to build and reflects a very singular, beautiful eye.


Countryside describes it plainly: unique and beautiful treasures abound. Looking at what's in this home, they're not overstating it.
