What’s in your china cabinet?

I was perusing Facebook Marketplace recently, and a seller described her item as “fresh out of the china cabinet.” While ambiguous, I interpreted it as, “This a grade-A always-on-display beautiful thing. Behind glass, it’s been protected from bouncing balls, dust and dander, and all of the clumsy hands of those who dwell or visit here.”
This year, I turned 50. I’ve joked that I finally turned my true age. While not a grandma, my china cabinet is fresh, fanciful, and a mix of young and old, and most of it is entry-level collector. Many of us gravitate to delicate and pretty objects. Maybe because we know life is fragile, and all of it is breakable. In this small china cabinet, we give thanks and present what is whole.
Here’s to grandma chic, coastal grandmillenial, or whatever you call it. Here’s to pretty things that bring us pleasure and their artistic arrangement. Here’s to china cabinets, curios, and cupboards. Here’s to grandmas and grand dames, who inspire us!
